The grapevine of death?

I was reading the carton of my innocent smoothie when I came across this interesting fact – that grapevines strangle or suffocate all other plants around them. I wonder was Jesus aware of this when he spoke about being the vine and us his branches?
Adds a new aspect to the metaphor…?

I had no idea that a grape vine does that but I like it! I like it because when you consider that Jesus is love and remember that the only thing that overcomes death is Love, then even in the grape vine Jesus has drawn another metaphor of how to over come the world. Not by fighting it or excluding ourselves from it but by living in love which drives everything else out! COOL!
